The history of Oswestry Musical Theatre Company dates back to the 1920's and 1930's when and Operatic Society flourished in Oswestry, performing at the King's Theatre, New Street, and at the Victoria Rooms, Roft Street.
In the spring of 1962, a suggestion was made in the local newspaper, the Border Counties Advertiser, that the Society should be revived, and in March 1963 the Oswestry and District Amateur Operatic Society was re-born. Rehearsals commenced in April 1963 and HMS Pinafore was presented to an enthusiastic audience in January 1964.

One of the main changes made in recent years is our new name. Committee members felt that the term "operatic" gave the wrong impression to any potential audience. Members were asked for suggestions and Oswestry Musical Theatre Company was chosen as more accurately reflecting the type of shows we are performing now - such as Calamity Jane, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Carousel and Oliver!.
However, we will never forget our background, and all the people who worked so hard in the past to make the Company what it is today. Music has always been at the very heart of the Company and our escalating success at pulling in the audiences year upon year guarantees that we will still be performing shows for many years to come!

Although an amateur group the OMTC has built up a positive reputation for its profession approach and its dedication to providing first class entertainment to Oswestry, North West Shropshire and the bordering area of Wales.. It is the main producer of musical productions in this part of Shropshire and one in which we are intensely proud. People fond of modern musicals will travel considerable distances to experience one of our shows. With the tiered seating in our venue at the Marches School in Oswestry we now play to capacity audiences most nights. Over 1,000 people now attend the performances which are played over five nights, from Tuesday to Saturday. Be sure to apply early when the tickets go on sale for our next production.
